"This
is dad with Rocky the dog. He sent some of these photos home to his
family and this was the narrative that he sent along for this photo:
This is probably the
luckiest dog in the world. His name is Rocky, and he’s been
with the squadron since he was born a little over a year ago in Taegue
(sp?) Korea. As a pup, one of the pilots took him up in an 86 and
broke the sound barrier. Later, when they moved up here he was put
in an airplane and brought along. Wherever we go, he goes. One time
the officer in charge of the officers’ club told the boys they
couldn’t bring him in any more. The squadron commander didn’t
appreciate this at all, so the next day he had an official set of
orders made up designating Rocky as a 2/LT in the Air Force. When
the club manager started to throw him out again they showed him the
orders. Now Rocky goes in the club whenever he pleases. Later, he
was promoted to 1/LT and he’s due to make Captain soon. Last
squadron party we had, Rocky showed up wearing a red scarf with 1/LT
bars and a pair of wings on it. He ate shrimp, beef roast, ham and
lobster right with the rest of us. At a party just before I got here
, he had a filet mignon and a glass of champagne. The steak was to
hot, so he drank the champagne while it was cooling. Oh for a dog’s
life." -

"If
I remember correctly this was captioned that it was -15 at K-55 that
day. He had just returned from Formosa, where it was much warmer."
