Obituary

Richard "Dick" L. Erratt, 86, of Sanford, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 29, 2017 in Bryan, Texas. He was born April 1, 1930 in Lansing, son of Lynn I. and Bessie (Martin) Erratt. Dick graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1947 then Michigan State University in 1951 with a B.S. in chemical engineering. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as an F-86 Sabre Jet pilot in the Korean War and he retired from the Reserves in 1972. Dick was united in marriage Sept. 1, 1956, to Marilyn "Jan" Bartlett at the First Congregational Church in Haverhill, Mass.

Dick worked for The Dow Chemical Co. from 1956 to 1988. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland and was involved in many community organizations including Elf Khurafeh Shriners, Midland Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Midland R/C Club and Friends of the Jordan River. Dick and Jan were active in the Midland Tennis Center where they played and also umpired. Dick and Jan were avid sportspeople who enjoyed bird hunting, fly fishing and downhill skiing.
